TOPIC: Toxicology FOAM

Hi All,

This page is to share resources on Toxicology, the page will be updated as I keep reading more from exciting FOAM resources.

Here’s a good place to get up to speed with a toxicology overview by Dr. William Mallon : Toxicology Board Review

I also recommend using the Rosen’s based toxicology (and more) flashcards by BoringEm, they can be found at the cram.com repository.

Topics:

  1. Calcium Channel Blocker Toxicity

  2. Acetaminophen Toxicity

  3. Salicylate Toxicity

  4. Calcium Channel Blocker Toxicity

  5. Digoxin Toxicity

  6. Laundry Detergent Pod Ingestions

  7. CN and CO Poisoning

  8. Cocaine Overdose

    • I haven’t found a FOAM post on this, but I’ve reviewed some restricted access sites such as Emergency Medicine Cases and here’s a quick summary:
    • Symptoms : The inhibition of re-uptake of norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin leads to hypertension, tachycardia, hyperthermia, agitation, seizure and coma. The sodium channel blockade leads to QT prolongation and VT. The stimulation of endothelin and nitrous oxide leads to vasospasm, vasoconstriction, further hypertension, potential STEMI and aortic dissection.
    • Treatment : Benzodiazepam, Nitrites, Bicarb, active cooling, Phentolamine, CCB’s. Avoid Beta-blockers due to unopposed alpha adrenergic effects.
That’s all I got for now !
Stay Tuned!
